The Silent Killers (Diseases)

The main diseases during the French Revolution were: 

Intestinal Infections: The intestinal infections might be caused by a virus, bacteria or parasites, these attack the gastrointestinal track.


Pulmonar Infections: The lungs weaken. 


Smallpox: The smallpox is caused by two virus: Variola major, Variola Minor. Smallpox spreads very easily from person to person. Symptoms are flu-like and include high fever, fatigue and headache and backache, followed by a rash with flat red sores.




Tuberculosis: It is an infectious disease caused by mycrobacteria (most of the time is the mycobacterium tuberculosis) 

Symptoms: 


  • Cough
  • Unintentional weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Night sweats
  • Chills
  • Loss of appetite
